Grassroots Int. Becomes Dalia Association Fiscal Sponsor

May 2008 - Dalia Association is thrilled that U.S. donors will now be able to make tax-deductible contributions to the “Grassroots International Dalia Fund” at Grassroots International, the highly reputable Boston-based social justice funder, as the result of a fiscal sponsorship agreement signed in February, 2008. “Dalia Association hopes this new channel will increase funding for innovative community-based social change and sustainable development initiatives in Palestinian communities in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and Israel,” said Nora Lester Murad, executive director of Dalia Association. “Our relationship with Grassroots International will help us to mobilize resources so that we can support small organizations that work tirelessly to make a real difference in their communities.” Grassroots International is also very excited about the fiscal sponsorship. “This will be another way we can continue to support the rights of Palestinians and the building of a secular, progressive movement in Palestine,” said Nikhil Aziz, executive director of Grassroots International. “We believe this is a way of doing work in Palestine that complements our work there and enables folks to engage in giving to Palestine who otherwise would not be able to.” In accordance with U.S. law, donors make contributions to Grassroots International, which retains full legal control over the funds. Donors recommend their contributions be directed to the Grassroots International Dalia Fund. Contributions are pooled, and grants are made to Dalia Association on a periodic basis. Responsibilities for due diligence and reporting are laid out in the fiscal sponsorship agreement between Dalia Association and Grassroots International.
