Within our endeavor as Dalia Association, to present the issue of food sovereignty as a principle and practice in Palestine, and to gather the efforts of the actors in the field to come up with a clear collective approach towards food sovereignty in Palestine, we partnered with the Heinrich Böll Foundation - Palestine and Jordan, to conduct a series of mujawarat, discussions, and dialogues on the subject of national food sovereignty. With the purpose of conducting a study and formulating a position paper on the subject, in addition to another study on the reality of farmers in the border areas of the Gaza Strip from the perspective of food sovereignty.
In September, we presented the position paper to various official bodies, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Environment Quality Authority, the Palestinian Fund for Employment and Social Protection for Workers, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Palestinian Water Authority, and the Ministry of National Economy, in attendance were also representatives of agricultural and development institutions, local community initiatives, and farmers. The aim of the session was to present the recommendations to support the adoption of food sovereignty, which, if embraced, will provide solutions in many areas, including providing job opportunities for youth and women, revitalizing natural resources such as water and soil, providing healthy and clean food, as well as protecting small-scale farmers, and encouraging their resilience.
We thank everyone who participated in this session and joined this crucial discussion.
