We organized the voting day for Bethlehem’s governorate as part of the IBDA’ Youth Program-which is supported by DROSOS FOUNDATION, on Monday the 10th of August, at the YMCA chapter in Beit Jala. A committee from the local community who represent various sectors participated in the voting to select the initiatives, including academics, and actors in institutions related to youth projects.
In addition, last year’s IBDA’ leaders also took part in the committee, this included Dalia from Myriam initiative and Sleiman from Creativity Room by Power Group.
The following initiatives were chosen and received a community grant of $2000 U.S.
1. Fana’i: This initiative provides art activities for children in the villages surrounding the city of Bethlehem, and helps them to express themselves creatively through the use of music and drawing.
2. The Literature Salon: an initiative that encourages creative writing, which provides space for young men and women in the Bethlehem area, as it seeks to develop their writing skills, and to express themselves through the Salon.
3. Jrabat: This project manufactures socks with a Palestinian theme, on which phrases and words of social, political, or cultural significance are written and promoted locally and internationally to encourage the Palestinian textile sector and support the local product. The profit from selling the socks goes to support university students in Palestinian universities. The initiative is implemented by a group of young activists, with the aim of increasing the spirit of volunteerism and promoting the idea of Al Ouneh and social solidarity.
