Community Giving Training for Women - Gaza
This September, Dalia Association implemented a training in Community Giving for women who received Dalia’s grant this year 2022 in Gaza.
The training was joined by 16 trainees who represented diverse community initiatives, which varied from agricultural initiatives, to cultural or environmental, or initiatives that work with people with disabilities.
The training aimed to encourage the initiative owners to reflect on their work within the initiatives, and how it can grow to become more participatory and just. The training focused on the importance of having an inclusive vision in community work, and considering environmental, economic, social, and cultural aspects in each initiative.
The training addressed concepts of collaborative work and reflection on the social environment, as well as the importance of good relations and ways of living through a training on collaborative thinking. The training also addressed the need to examine the relationships around us, and interact with them in our social contexts. In addition to that, a training was implemented in crowdfunding and the importance of reliance on the community as a cultural, intellectual, and practical resource for community work, as well as mechanics of inclusivity in the activities of the initiatives, and how the community can be integrative to achieve the social change it seeks.
The training offered a shared, safe space for the initiative owners to build their capacities as needed, and raise awareness on the dangers of external conditional and unconditional funding, and on reviving the status of the land through these initiatives, and spreading the spirit of philanthropy through the training itself as a first step, then implementing them in the initiatives through their own activities as the next step.
The training aimed to create a fostering community for women’s initiatives to realize a common passion and a cultural, social, intellectual exchange between them, in order to set a plan for sustainable cooperation.
Consultant Samah Safadi offered an introduction to feminist work in Palestine and its definitions, and a presentation on its history, role and influence. The consultant expanded the women’s expertise in working within an initiative, managing them, marketing for them, setting a marketing mix for them, and discussing it within interactive and participatory discussions between the participants.
And within the frame of setting the budgets of each initiative, consultant Salah Sadi explained how to obtain grants and make use of local resources, in addition to basics in crowdfunding, entrepreneurship, and creative thinking in writing proposals.
For four days, Dalia was able to learn, share knowledge and expertise, and offer a safe space for women’s initiatives.
